Supporting photojournalism means investing in truth-telling infrastructure at a time when local news outlets are collapsing and visual literacy matters more than ever. Photojournalists risk their lives in documenting the biggest issues of our time, yet the educational opportunities and economic model supporting their work have become increasingly precarious.
In recognition of this, The Globe and Mail Foundation has chosen to advance the practice of photojournalism in Canada as one of its pillars of impact. In addition to delivering ongoing training and mentorship for photojournalists, the Foundation runs an annual, two-day photojournalism summit, bringing together emerging and established practitioners from across Canada for professional and career development.

BC PROGRAM
The Globe Photo Academy B.C. Training and Mentorship Program
The program is training nine promising graduates and early-career photographers, with participants from Indigenous, rural, and other underrepresented communities in B.C.

The Globe Photo Academy Photojournalism Training and Mentorship Program
The inaugural photojournalism training and mentorship program launched at the beginning of 2026, and will now run for a year instead of six months due to demand by the students.

The Globe Photojournalism Summit
Creators and experts convened for the Foundation’s first photojournalism summit in Toronto - an action-packed educational weekend of panel discussions, keynotes, skills-based workshops, and professional development.
