About Us

The launch of The Globe and Mail Foundation fulfills a long-held ambition to create a charitable organisation that can protect and promote strong ethical standards and excellence in the field of journalism.

A thriving media sector underscored by independent, fact-checked journalism is critical to civic engagement and to the health of our democracy. The work we do today will help shape a better tomorrow.

The Globe and Mail Foundation’s mission is to protect and promote excellence in journalism. Our vision is a world in which journalism, and journalists, can thrive. We will work with philanthropists along with other funding and educational partners to create and enhance a range of programming including media literacy initiatives for the public, training programs for journalists, and freely accessible coverage on top societal issues through fellowships and residencies.  The Foundation has a specific interest in supporting photojournalism.

The Foundation is independent of The Globe and Mail news media organization and is governed by a volunteer board of directors.
